History of JSC Solikamskbumprom
In the thirties of the twentieth century, the government of the Soviet Union decided to build a pulp and paper mill in the north of the Perm region near the village of Ust-Borovaya. The construction project was justified by the presence of the richest forests of coniferous wood, the proximity of the railway and waterways - the Kama River.
The birth of the plant began with the construction of a railway from the future construction site to the Solikamsk station. Construction materials and equipment for workshops and sites under construction were delivered by rail.
By the end of 1940, construction and installation work was completed on a mechanical repair shop, a pulp mill, cable cranes and a pulpwood exchange for receiving wood, as well as on a wood preparatory shop, a thermal power station. A residential settlement and a secondary school for the workers of the plant were built.
In March 1941, the long-term work of builders, installers and specialists was completed. At the Solikamsk Pulp and Paper Mill, the first products were produced - sulphite cellulose and wrapping paper on paper machine No. 1.
The Great Patriotic War prevented the successful development of the enterprise. During the war, many specialists went to the front and military products were mainly produced by women and adolescents. Solikamsk PPM produced cushioning cardboard and special paper pulp for the production of gunpowder for the front.
After the war, Solikamsk PPM began to rapidly increase production.
In 1949 the enterprise was redesigned to produce newsprint paper, which became the main product of the plant. As a result of expansion and technical improvement, a number of semi-finished products production facilities were commissioned, ensuring a further increase in newsprint production volumes.
In the sixties and seventies, the second birth of the Solikamsk Pulp and Paper Mill began. Four more modern paper machines from Mitsubishi (Japan) and Vyartsilya (Finland) were sequentially put into operation. The capacity for wood processing, pulping and the production of wood pulp was increased.
For high achievements in production activities, the Solikamsk PPM was awarded by the Government of the USSR the highest award - the Order of Lenin.
The collective of the plant was the initiator of many undertakings in the All-Union competitions, having inscribed more than one glorious page in the history of the domestic pulp and paper industry. The example of Solikamsk wallets for the production of products with reduced mass intensity found a response not only in the pulp and paper industry, but also in other sectors of the USSR national economy.
The products of Solikamsk PPM were intended for the largest publishing houses of the Soviet Union. Part of the paper was sent for export, mainly to the CMEA countries.
In 1992, as a result of corporatization on the basis of Solikamsk PPM, an open joint-stock company "Solikamskbumprom" was created. Over the years of the perestroika period, as a result of continuous technical improvement, Solikamskbumprom has turned into a modern enterprise of European level with a developed infrastructure.
