Technical lignosulfonates

Technical lignosulfonates – a mixture of sodium salts of lignosulfonic acids (with additives of reducing and mineral substances) derived from liquors of bisulfite pulp cooking.

First of all interest in lignosulfonates is based on their high surface activity that allow using the given additives in various industries.

Technical lignosulfonates are used:

  • in chemical industry - as the stabilizer, dispersing agent for manufacture of briquetted means of plants protection;
  • in oil-producing industry - as reagent for regulation of drilling fluids;
  • in foundry engineering - as a binding material for formation of casting molds, an additive for parting paints;
  • in cement industry and refractory processing - as cement plasticizer and binding material.

Technical requirements

They are developed according to TU 2455-028-00279580-2004. Technical lignosulfonates are produced in liquid and powder forms.

Packing and marks

Liquid lignosulfonates are shipped in railway tanks with bottom discharge, trucks, barrels and other reservoirs with marks of GOST 14192.

Powder lignosulfonates are packed in:

  • 4 -ply (and more) paper bags, according to GOST 2226 PМ grade closed type with valve, max. weight is not more than 20 kg
  • soft polypropylene containers made of polymeric tissue for bulk products with MKR type lower issuing hatch with polyethylene liners weighing not more than 450 kg
  • MKR type soft polypropylene containers (“Big Bags”) weighing not more than 650 kg

Safety requirements

There are MSDSs (Material Safety Data Sheet) for technical lignosulfonates with the validity period to 12.01.2016.

The influence of lignosulfonates on human is very low (relates to the 4th class of hazard in accordance with GOST 12.1.007). Technical lignosulfonates do not possess the skin-resorbtive, irritant effect and allergic actions and are accepted as low toxic products. Technical lignosulfonates also are flame and explosion -proof. By fire risk the production concerns to “D” category.
